Commissioners continue getting new treasurer set up

ERIE — Neosho County commissioners on Monday were still working toward transitioning the new County Treasurer Gabby Sands into her position, along with her deputy, Keely Dodge.

Former Treasurer Sydney Ball resigned effective Dec. 6, and her deputy, Marcia McCoy, also resigned. Ball had just been re-elected.

For a couple of meetings, commissioners have been discussing county bank accounts and have been working with Sands to give her and her deputy access to them. Sands has also been working to remove the former treasurer and her deputy from the accounts. Sands this week said she was working for access to the final two accounts and commissioners agreed to allow Sands access to all county accounts.

Commissioner Nic Galemore also wants view-only access to all county accounts.

Sands asked about a bond required of treasurers and how to pay for it. She said $1 million is the standard bond. Ball had a $100,000 bond.

Sands also noted that Labette County Treasurer’s Office and its staff for assistance during her transition into the office. Commissioner Paul Westhoff thanked Labette County for the assistance.

Commissioners are also wanting a forensic audit conducted on various accounts in the future.
