Donna Marquita (Mallory) Herold

Donna Marquita (Mallory) Herold, 83, of Chanute, passed away on Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka.

Donna was born on Sept. 24, 1941, in Salina to Donald and Dorothy (Johnson) Mallory.

On June 3, 1961, she married Hans Michael (Mike) Herold, who survives of the home.

Donna is now reunited with her parents and infant son, Mark Christian, who preceded her in death.

She leaves behind her cherished family, including three daughters, Camie Russell (husband, Kevon), Melissa Weaver (husband, Jason), all of Chanute, and Katrina Herold of Independence, Missouri; a son, Kevin Herold of Gainesville, Texas; and a sister, Sherry Ellison of Claremore, Oklahoma.

Donna Marquita Herold is remembered for her radiant smile, twinkling eyes and kind heart. Her home was always open, and she served all who entered with kindness and care. If there were to be a doctorate in being a homemaker, she would carry that credential and could have taught a master class. As hard working as she was at managing a beautiful and organized household, she also was a devoted wife and fun and energetic grandmother. Donna was proud of each of her nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

There was always something to eat, games to play and songs to sing. Her world focused on serving her family and she also found time to share her talents in volunteer and work activities. She shone at teaching crafts, doing floral design and creating window and retail displays. She spent time as room mother, Girl Scout leader and being a Sunday school teacher when her children were young. She enjoyed dinners out and dancing but would often find time to relax with coffee while she watched grandchildren play or whatever show Mike had playing entirely too loud on the television.

Her love is carried forward in the hearts of friends and family who were blessed to have received her gentle spirit and abundant care.

Donna’s modest wish was to be cremated and laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery Chanute with no public service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home.
