HOLLY, JOLLY TUBAS

HOLLY, JOLLY TUBAS: Southeast Kansas musicians treated the public to Holly, Jolly Tubas on Sunday afternoon at the Chanute High School auditorium with a variety of holiday tunes played on trombones, euphoniums, tubas and sousaphones. The musicians ranged in age from 11 to 75 and came from Chanute, Fredonia, Neodesha, Moran and Independence. Ethan Hernandez (right photo) plays one of two sousaphones at the performance. Scylar Stich is playing the sousa behind him. Brandon Halberg from Independence Community College was the guest conductor. A.J. Beu, Ph.D., is band teacher for CHS and Royster Middle School and said this event formerly took place at Pittsburg State University. Former PSU music professor Doug Whitten directed the performance for a number of years. Whitten passed in 2022. Ray Nolting/ Tribune photos
