Carmen Ira Colston, 78, of Chanute passed away at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024.
Carmen was born on Feb. 19, 1946, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to George and Mary (Manly) Colston. Shortly after birth, Carmen and his family moved to Southeast Kansas. Carmen grew up in the Buffalo and Chanute areas and attended school. On April 5, 1969, Carmen married Nola Mae Ethridge in Chanute. The two were married 55 years before his passing. Through the years Carmen and Nola welcomed four children: Travis, Brian, Jeff and Shane. From a previous marriage, Carmen had three children: Troy, Mark and Missy. Carmen was a hard-working man who dedicated 20 years to the city of Chanute. During this time, Carmen worked in numerous departments running heavy equipment. During his free time Carmen loved to hunt and tinker on various mechanical projects. Many will remember Carmen for is love of gab and joking nature.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Colston and Mary Reed; stepfather, Francis Reed; sons, Brian, Shane, Jeffery and Mark Colston; and siblings, Georgia Young, Roy Colston and Farrel Colston.
Carmen’s memory will carry on with his wife, Nola; sons, Troy and Travis Colston; a daughter, Missy Long; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cathy Card and Anita Barnet; a brother, George Colston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home, and the family will have a celebration of Carmen’s and Jeffery’s life at Countryside Funeral Home at a later date. Dates and times will be announced when they become available.
