Republicans to choose new treasurer
ERIE — The Neosho County Republican Central Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, to choose a replacement for Neosho County Treasurer Sydney Ball. Ball, who was re-elected to a four-term in November, submitted her resignation to Gov. Laura Kelly on Nov. 20. Her resignation is effective today, Dec. 6.
In accordance with Kansas law, the Neosho County Republican Committee will nominate a replacement for the governor to consider appointing to fill the vacancy.
The committee will meet in the lower level meeting room at the Neosho County Courthouse in Erie. The public is invited to attend.
NCCC trustees to meet Wednesday
The Neosho Community College Board of Trustees will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, in the Student Union Board Room. This is a public meeting.
Tasting tea set Sunday at depot
The historic train depot, which houses the Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum and the Chanute Public Library, will be the location for the 4-H International Tasting Tea event from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday Dec. 8.
This is a free event open to everyone and there is no charge for the food. The featured country this year is France.
Since 1982, this community service project has been presented by the Neosho Valley Busy Bees 4-H Club. It is an opportunity to sample foods of France prepared by these hard-working 4-H’ers and their families.
Kansas Water Authority to meet in Parsons
The Kansas Water Authority (KWA) will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Southeast Research and Extension Center, 25092 Ness Road in Parsons.

The KWA is responsible for advising the governor, Legislature and director of the Kansas Water Office on water policy issues. They also ensure that water policies and programs address the needs of all Kansans as well as serve as advisers of the Kansas Water Plan. The KWA was established in 1981 and consists of 13 voting members who are appointed by the governor or legislative leadership. State agency directors serve as ex-officio members.
KDOT to host passenger rail update
A live virtual meeting to update the public on the Kansas Department of Transportation’s passenger rail service development plan will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
The live virtual meeting will take place via Zoom, and KDOT will provide a brief presentation in real time. Participants can then ask questions or make comments, and KDOT will respond.

KDOT is exploring plans for rail service from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Newton, where it would connect with the Southwest Chief, Amtrak’s passenger rail.
