The Chanute Area Retired School Personnel met on Wednesday, Nov. 6, in the Cleaver Dining Room of the Student Union at Neosho County Community College. Greeters were Patsy Krokstrom and Diana Saving.
Introductions were made for the group’s veterans: Alicia Fickle, Dean Dillard and Ed Wilcox. Dean Dillard gave the invocation.
Melanie Smith, SHICK coordinator, talked about Medicare changes.
The group approved previous meeting minutes and the treasurer’s report.
The election of officers has been delayed until December.
Tracy Walker, sponsor of NHS, has asked if there would be a way the students could be involved in our organization as a community outreach. They have been invited to our December meeting.
District 6 director/membership: Jane Martin attended a state board meeting and they are again offering $100 to each unit to be used for membership. This group will be applying for that. They are also offering vouchers of $102 each to attract people who have never attended the convention to do so. In addition, they are also offering a stipend of $100 if four members of this unit attend the Rally Day on Feb. 12 in Topeka.
Community service: Anita DeLaTorre reported that she has already delivered lip balm to Cherry Street. She will be decorating the Art Gallery Christmas tree on Nov. 16. Mary Dawson reminded membership to turn in G&W receipts.
Courtesy and welfare: Patsy Krokstrom sent out two birthday cards in October.
Health: Elinor Whaley felt like the group got our health report in our program today.
The next meeting will be Dec. 4 at 12:30 p.m. in the Cleaver Dining Room at NCCC.
