Glenn Wayne Wrestler, 89, of Chanute passed away Friday, Nov. 15, at Neosho Memorial Hospital.
Glenn was born Dec. 17, 1934, in rural Chanute to Claude Oral and Juanita Lois (Brinkmeyer) Wrestler.
Glenn attended Chanute schools, graduating in 1952. He enjoyed vocational agriculture and participated in FFA where he qualified for the Kansas state fairs.
He began working for Santa Fe Railway in 1952 and retired after 45 years of service as a freight train conductor. He also owned and operated Wrestler Boats and Campers for over 33 years before selling that business.
Glenn was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 806. In 1978, he was selected Elk of the Year. In his free time, he enjoyed his family, home, fishing, spending time at Grand Lake and especially the annual pheasant hunting trips to Garden City with family and friends. He also enjoyed the numerous trips to Colorado to hunt deer and elk. Glenn had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed a good joke. He loved animals, especially dogs. He spoiled his dog, Punkin, to where she expected him to take her on evening cruises around town. He also was a big fan of the Chiefs and Royals, and enjoyed reading and visiting with any and everyone.
Glenn is survived by his loving companion, Nadine Rumold, who brought him much happiness in his final years; his six children, Marsha Aikins (Kenny), Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Cindy King (Terry), Chanute, Glennis Wilson (Lonnie), Chanute, Glenn Wrestler Jr. (Debbie), Chanute, Scott Wrestler, Chanute, and Tony Wrestler (Dawn), Hahira, Georgia; a bonus daughter, Terri Jo Conger (Scott), O’Fallon, Missouri; a bonus son, Jerry Horn (Jonnet Williams) Chanute; 30 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Eva Brockman, Newton; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Wrestler, Chanute.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Wrestler; his sisters, Thelma Ford and Jean Bilbe; his ex-wife, Alta Barnett; his wife, Lora Lee Wrestler; and grandsons, Kirk Wrestler and Mikey Wrestler.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Otterbein Global Methodist Church with visitation taking place an hour before the service. Cremation will follow the ceremony with a private burial at Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to Tri-Valley Developmental Services, Chanute, or ACARF Allen County Animal Rescue Facility, and these can be mailed to or left with the funeral home.
