Chanute High School’s Health Occupations
Chanute High School’s Health Occupations Students of America arranged the annual blood drive for Wednesday at the school. At the event students over age 16 could donate blood. Pictured is senior Lilli Hollingshead. HOSA members were on hand to assist with the drive. “We provide snacks and water for our donors while they wait. When they are in the process of donating we keep them company and make sure they are feeling good, have snacks, water, etc,” stated Jory Murry, the CHS sponsor for HOSA. “When they are finished we sit with them to make sure they are still feeling well. We feed them walking tacos, bring them more snacks and juice and help them if they start to feel dizzy or nauseous.” Members of HOSA also help with some of the work, making appointments to organize everyone and helping the Red Cross move equipment in. “It is a super busy but rewarding day. We had 47 units of blood donated, which will save 141 lives,” Murry said. HOSA will have another blood drive on April 30 for anyone who wants to donate again or if they missed the first blood drive.
