DEARING — A traffic stop Monday night near Dearing ended with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office seizing more than a pound of methamphetamine laced with fentanyl A release from the sheriff’s office said a deputy stopped a 1991 Toyota pickup at 8:48 p.m. Monday north of Dearing.
During the stop, sheriff K-9 Pax was deployed for an openair sniff around the vehicle. Pax alerted deputies to the presence of illegal narcotics. A search turned up the fentanyl laced meth. Additional items found included syringes, marijuana and various drug paraphernalia. Deputies arrested the driver and sole occupant, Donny Sumner of Wayside.
Sumner was transported to the Montgomery County Department of Corrections.
“Great job by our deputies in enforcing traffic laws, which ultimately led to removing a significant quantity of ... drugs from our community,” Sheriff Ron Wade said in a statement. “This incident highlights the growing concern of fentanyl being mixed into other drugs. We will continue to combat the drug crisis and other crimes to ensure the safety of Montgomery County residents.”
