CHERRYVALE — Two people died in a three-vehicle wreck on U.S. 169 just southwest of Cherryvale Saturday afternoon.
The accident happened just before 4 p.m. Saturday. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that Joseph P. Savage, 45, of Coffeyville and Connor A. Barba, 18, of Norman, Oklahoma, were killed.
According to the KHP, Savage was southbound on the highway in a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro about one-half of a mile south of County Road 5000, while Barba was northbound in a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe.
Savage drifted left of center and struck Barba head-on in the northbound lane, the KHP reports.
A third vehicle, a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Theodore J. Osmon, 53, of Nowata, Oklahoma, attempted to avoid the wreck by applying brakes and veered into the southbound lane.
As Savage’s and Barba’s vehicles separated, Savage’s vehicle rotated into the southbound lane and struck Osman’s vehicle on the driver’s side, the KHP reported.
Savage and Barba were pronounced dead at the scene. An occupant in Barba’s vehicle, Megan C. Barnett, 41, of Norman, Oklahoma, was taken to Coffeyville Regional Medical Center with possible serious injuries.
Osman had no apparent injury, the report said. All drivers and occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision, the KHP reported.
