STARK — James H. “Jim” Scott Jr., 78, of Stark passed away at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024, at Diversicare of Chanute.
He was born on Oct. 15, 1946, at Providence, Rhode Island, to James H. Sr. and Helene (Paquette) Scott. He grew up in Providence and attended school there, graduating from high school in 1964.
He was an exceptional athlete and enjoyed playing golf, hockey, bowling and his true love, baseball. He was drafted by the Boston Rex Sox and was a catcher in their minor league system, making it to the Pawtucket Red Sox Triple-A affiliate. While with the Red Sox organization he was drafted by the United States Army, training troops to go to Vietnam. He later served in the Army Reserves for nine years.
Jim worked in the fastener manufacturing industry for most of his life with companies in Rhode Island, North Kansas City, Missouri, Houston and Dallas, Texas. He moved to Kansas City in 1978 where he met the love of his life, Lisa Vandervoort, and she met hers. They met at a singles complex called the Unicorn. They were married on June 23, 1979, at the United Methodist Church in Stark. They were happily married for over 44 years, and she survives of the home. Other survivors include nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, a private family service will be held later.
