Three injured, one killed in wreck

THAYER — Two vehicles collided at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, on U.S. 169 about two miles north of K-47. One driver died from injuries suffered in the wreck.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2005 Chevrolet Impala driven by Gregory Lopez, 19, of Chanute was northbound on U.S. 169 in the four-lane zone. 

A 2005 Chrysler Town and Country driven by Heather A. Craft, 48, of Fredonia was southbound. Lopez’ vehicle went left of center into oncoming traffic and struck Craft’s van on the southbound right lane/shoulder. 

Lopez was taken to Mercy Hospital in Joplin with suspected serious injuries. He later died from his injuries. Two of his passengers were injured: Rylan S. McVey, 21, of Chanute and Camden A. Hugo, 20, of Chanute. 

Craft was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
