Chanute will bring its entire boys team, alongside three girls, to the KSHSAA 4A Cross Country Championships in Wamego after its showing at Saturday’s regional race.
In the boys’ race, Winfield’s Talon Suttles won with a time of 17:20, edging out runner-up Jaron Powers of Chanute by four seconds.
Chanute’s Tucker Applegate took fourth place (17:36), Tyler Rowden 12th (18:01), Easton Colborn 13th (18:01), Joshua Schoenhofer 22nd (19:17) and Mason Greve 29th (19:59).
Mulvane won the regional title as a team with 42 points. Chanute was runner-up with 50 points, followed by Winfield (66), Labette County (102), Coffeyville (117) and Fort Scott (142).
As for the girls’ race, Macie Moore won for Chanute with a time of 21:01, winning by 16 seconds over runner-up Winfield’s Cadence Stanley.
Violet Stich placed ninth (22:24) and Jarynn Hockett took 15th (22:53) to earn tickets to the state race.
Laney Hillmon placed 23rd 24:17) and Kyli Baylor took 36th (34:12).
Winfield won the girls’ regional title as a team with 28 points. Labette County took runner-up with 68 points, followed by Fort Scott (69), Chanute (76) and Mulvane (90).
