UNIONTOWN – The Altoona-Midway High School volleyball team must feel they’re starring in their own macabre version of “Groundhog Day.”
In a scene that has played out far too often this fall, the Lady Jets got off to a slow start, picked things up to play well for a while, but then only to tail off once again.
That inconsistent regimen again resulted in AMHS losing a pair of Three Rivers League matches here Thursday.
In the opener, host Uniontown needed some extra time before defeating the Lady Jets 25-10, 29-27; Southeast High School followed that match by defeating AMHS 25-18, 25-13.
“We played well as a team in the second set against Uniontown, and in the first set against Southeast,” said AMHS head coach Michelle Stackhouse. “But once again, we were unable to come away with a win. Unfortunately, getting off to a slow start has been a problem the entire season.”
Autumn Raymond topped the serving charts for Altoona-Midway with 14 good serves, including an ace. Raymond also handed out a team-high 62 sets, and finished with seven kills, nine tips, and 82 passes.
Sandra Morales and Emmalynn Pupanek each collected eight positive serves and two aces for the day. Morales established team highs with 10 kills and 14 tips while adding 49 sets, 40 passes and two blocks.
Pupanek led the Lady Jets with eight blocks and 83 passes. The senior also racked up eight kills, 12 sets and five tips.
Altoona-Midway closed out the TRL portion of its schedule with a 1-9 mark and dropped to 5-23 overall. The Lady Jets are scheduled to close out the regular-season portion of their schedule on Tuesday with a non-conference home dual against Central Heights. First serve is slated for 5 p.m. at Milo Peterson Gymnasium.
