Humboldt beats Prairie View to stay perfect

LA CYGNE — Preserving an undefeated record in their closest contest so far, the Humboldt Cubs took down Prairie View in Week 5, 46-35.

Blake Ellis stitched together a legacy effort, posting six total touchdowns out of the seven the Cubs scored.

Ellis was 11-of-12 passing for 183 yards and two scores — one apiece to Mason Sterling and Jacob Harrington. Ellis also rushed for 193 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries.

Cole Mathes added 58 yards on the ground and a touchdown for Humboldt. As a team, the Cubs amassed 281 rushing yards.

Defensively, Sterling and Kyler Isbell paced Humboldt with eight tackles apiece. Isbell also registered a sack in the contest.

Humboldt’s win moved the Cubs to 5-0 on the season.
