Kansans Invited to Weigh In on Water Issues

Virtual Meeting Now Available

Kansans now have a convenient way to contribute their opinions on critical water management issues across the state. A virtual, on-demand meeting has been launched to gather feedback as part of the second round of local consults focused on implementing the 2022 Kansas Water Plan. This opportunity comes after eight in-person meetings were held across the state in September.

This virtual meeting allows Kansans to share their input anytime, providing flexibility for those unable to attend the earlier in-person sessions. The input collected will help shape the future of water management, addressing challenges such as aquifer depletion, reservoir maintenance, and water quality improvements.

Participants will have the chance to provide feedback on: • Updated investment scenarios based on input from the first round of meetings.

• Important criteria for evaluating investment strategies.

• Realistic actions to achieve the long-term objectives outlined in the Kansas Water Plan.

• Preferred sources of revenue to fund these goals. This consultative process is vital for identifying and implementing sustainable solutions for the state’s water resources. The Kansas Water Authority will review interim results on October 16, but Kansans still have until November 8 to make their voices heard. Afterward, a final summary of the survey results will be developed and shared.

The effort is being led by the Kansas Water Office, Kansas Department of Agriculture, and Kansas Department of Health and Environment. These agencies are committed to ensuring that every Kansan has the chance to be part of this critical dialogue.

With water being a key resource for the state’s environment, agriculture, and communities, this is a pivotal moment for residents to participate in shaping a sustainable water future. For more information or to participate, reach out to the Kansas Water Office by email at kwo-info@ kwo.ks.gov.

Don’t miss the opportunity to contribute your voice and help safeguard Kansas’ water resources for future generations!
