Capture Kansas:

Water Photo Contest and Student Poster Submissions Now Open

As the vibrant autumn colors begin to paint the Kansas landscape, there’s no better time for photographers and students alike to venture outdoors and showcase the beauty and significance of water in our state. The Kansas Water Office (KWO) is inviting all Kansans to participate in the 2024 Water Photo Contest and student research poster submissions, both of which will be highlighted during the upcoming Governor’s Conference on the Future of Water in Kansas this November.

This year’s photo contest seeks to capture the essence of water and its vital role in our daily lives. Whether it’s the serene beauty of lakes, the rush of rivers, or the vital infrastructure that supports agriculture and recreation, KWO encourages photographers to explore and document Kansas’s diverse water-related scenes. From irrigation practices in rural areas to families enjoying a day on the water, every snapshot can contribute to a greater understanding of our state’s most precious resource.

Photographers should be aware that cash awards await the top winning photo in each category, with the honored pieces prominently displayed at the 2024 Governor’s Water Conference. Additionally, winning photographs will be featured in various KWO publications throughout the year, providing an excellent opportunity for recognition and exposure. The submission deadline for photos is November 1, and entries can be sent to kristin. [email protected].

In addition to the photo contest, students are also encouraged to get involved through their own research initiatives. Both undergraduate and graduate students are invited to submit abstracts for their water-related research, which will be showcased as posters during the conference. Research topics can include water quantity, quality, and education, making this a fantastic opportunity for students to share their findings with a broader audience. Cash awards will also be available for standout submissions, with a deadline for poster submissions set for November 4.

The Governor’s Conference on the Future of Water in Kansas not only serves as a platform to celebrate the winners of these contests but also fosters important discussions on water management, conservation, and sustainability. It’s an event that unites professionals, students, and community members, all focused on the future of water in our state.

So grab your cameras and hit the trails, lakes, and rivers! This is your chance to capture the beauty of Kansas water and showcase your talent. Whether you’re a seasoned photographer or just starting, the KWO invites you to help tell the story of Kansas’s vital water resources through your lens.
