Chanute High School’s 2024 homecoming was a beautiful event on Friday, September 27, set against perfect weather and clear skies. Thanks to game sponsor Bridgewood Cabinetry, attendees enjoyed free admission, and each received a complimentary Comets T-shirt, making it an extra special day for those in the stands.
During the coronation ceremony, the 2024 Homecoming King, #44 Landon Bilby, proudly received his crown alongside Queen Abril Cuin. Cuin, a trombonist in the Chanute High School marching band, gave the crowd a moment to remember when she sprinted onto the field in her four-footwide pink princess gown to join her band-mates for the halftime performance. With her crown still perched on her head, Cuin grabbed her trombone, hiked up her skirt, and made her way out to perform, blending royalty with musicianship.
While the energy and excitement of the day were undeniable, the crowd was smaller than in past years, even with the perfect weather. It’s a reminder of the importance of community support, especially at events like homecoming, where students work hard to make memories that will last a lifetime. Whether it’s cheering on the football team, celebrating the marching band’s performance, or witnessing moments like Queen Cuin’s triumphant run onto the field, these events showcase the heart and spirit of our students.
Let’s aim to fill the stands next year and make homecoming an even bigger celebration, showing our students that their community is behind them every step of the way.
