Chanute BPW talk technology, upcoming convention

Chanute Business and Professional Women met Wednesday April 9, for it’s regular meeting with Linda Powers as Hostess.

Jen Brown shared information for “Medicine Take Back Day” Saturday, April 26, at the NCART Booth at the Safari Family Fun Day behind the Chanute Chamber of Commerce Office from 9 a.m. to 1 pm. Expired or unused medication can also be taken to the Police Department.

President Sharon Carpenter reported the BPW Kansas Convention will be held May 30 through June 1, in Salina. Carpenter has been putting together the Publicity Notebook, due May 9. The Facebook media publicity is due May 12, and Kathy Williams is responsible for this. The May meeting will hold the election of officers for 2025-’26. The slate will be President Sharon Carpenter; Vice President Jen Brown; Treasurer Linda Powers and Secretary Tayah Williams. Installation will occur at our June meeting with Kathy Williams preparing and conducting the installation.

Linda presented a program “Technologies About To Change The World.” Information can be found at sciencefocus. com and thedroidguy.com. The Civil Aviation Administration of China has given the green light for commercial operations of autonomous flying taxis in two cities. Information on 3D-printed eyes, lab grown food and brain-reading robots was shared. The Swiss Federal Institute of Lausanne is working on Technology of brain signals to control wheelchairs or assisted machines. A company Ossiform specializes in medical 3D printing and creating patient-specific replacements 0f bones from tricalcium phosphate — a material similar to human bones.
