HUMBOLDT – Moving to 11-3 on the baseball season, the Humboldt Cubs split a Thursday doubleheader with the Burlington Wildcats. Humboldt lost Game 1, 6-3, before winning the second game, 1-0.
In Game 1, Burlington took a 3-1 lead with two runs in the fourth and never relinquished the advantage.
Cubs pitcher Logan Page was charged with the loss on the mound, tossing four innings while allowing six hits and three runs, two of them earned, and striking out four.
Humboldt was limited to two hits, one apiece from Cole Mathes and Page.
In Game 2, the lone run came on an RBI single from Avery Works that scored Mason Sterling in the bottom of the fifth frame.
Kyler Isbell pitched a complete-game shutout for Humboldt, striking out four while allowing five hits and two walks.
Humboldt has won five of its last six games.
