The April monthly Jolly Jayhawkers 4-H Club meeting was held on Sunday, April 14, at the Stark Community Building.
President Reed Hurt called the meeting to order. Guy Taylor led the club in the Flag salute. Secretary Owen Coover read the monthly roll call of “Do you prefer Showmanship or Market Classes?” The roll was answered by 19 members, two cloverbuds, two leaders, and eight parents or guests. The March meeting minutes were read and approved.
Club Leader Rachele Cosby gave the Leader’s report reminding members of upcoming 4-H Camps, local livestock weigh-in dates, and upcoming learning opportunities happening across the district.
Reporter Braxton Clasen gave the reporter’s report stating that the monthly report had been sent to the local papers as well as the Southwind Extension District Facebook Page.
Caysen Cosby gave the 4-H Council update, including the next scheduled meeting and an upcoming event. Caysen reported that the council would be taking livestock to the Guest Home Estates in Chanute on April 26.
During new business, members were reminded of upcoming livestock shows in the area. The club discussed and decided to sell cornbread during the upcoming Stark Beanfeed on May 23, as a fundraiser and voted to walk in the Stark Day’s parade in June. It is that time of the year when the club begins to think about the upcoming County fair. The discussion was held to sponsor two fair awards and to elect our Royalty candidates. Braxton Clasen and Aubrey Taylor will represent our club in the King and Queen Division, while Brecken Clasen and Hollie Simmons will represent the club in the Prince and Princess Division.
Caysen Cosby introduced the program for the month. Owen and Sophia Coover gave project talks about their upcoming fair projects. Braxton Clasen gave a project talk about his Sonic the Hedgehog drawings. Ryker Bennett led the group recreation with a game of Red Light and Green Light. Olivia Taylor led the monthly song of Happy Birthday to our April Birthdays. Brynn Wolken led the group in the 4-H pledge to end the meeting.
The next monthly meeting for the Jolly Jayhawkers will be held on May 18, at 4 p.m. Neosho Valley Event Center. This meeting will also serve as our Exchange meeting with the Hillcrest 4-H Club.
