ERIE — Area teams converged on Prairie Ridge Golf Course for the Erie Invitational Boys Golf Tournament on Monday.
Although it is known for being a straightforward yet frustrating 9-hole course due to high winds across the plains, Prairie Ridge was near calm for the tournament. This allowed for a number of solid scores.
Humboldt freshman Connor Newman won his third-straight tournament of the year with a 10-stroke victory. Newman’s blistering start to his prep career includes the 3-under-72 round on Monday, an 8-over-71 victory at Caney Golf Club, and a 3-over-68 win at Rock Creek Country Club.
Newman and the Cubs finished third as a team with a score of 407. Senior Colden Cook finished 19th with a 106, junior Layne Ellison finished 25th with a 110, and sophomore Thatcher Mueller rounded out the Cubs’ roster in 36th with a score of 122.
Junior Ty Barnhart led the way for the host Erie Red Devils, finishing fourth with an 82.
The Red Devils showed their knowledge of their home links, as the four scoring members finished top-11 for a runner-up team finish.
Isaac Myers finished 8th with a 92, Aiden Wilson came in 10th with a 93, and senior Reid Duff finished 11th with a 95. Senior Cody Elliot came in 14th with a 99, junior Tanner Strathe finished 16th with a 104, sophomore Justus Graff came in 30th with a 115, junior Jespen McLaughlin finished 31st with a 117.
A trio of Oswego Indians also took on the course Monday, as senior Owen Jackson finished 25th with a 110, sophomore Christian Cunningham finished 27th with a 112, and senior Carson Woodard finished 36th with a 122.
Caney Valley finished first in the team standings, 45 strokes ahead of Erie. The Bullpups nabbed the next three individual finishes after Newman, and added a sixth place finish to round out their scoring four.
