Chanute Business Women’s Club (BPW) met Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Kathy Williams was the hostess.
After our meal and business meeting Kathy presented a program in remembrance of the 911 tragedy that changed the lives of Americans 23 years ago. Four airplanes had been hijacked by 19 terrorists on mission to attack the USA, New York Cities Worlds Trade Center. It was attacked first by American Airlines Flight 11 and hit the North Tower at 8:45 am. United Airlines Flight 175 hit the South tower at 9:03am. American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the western side of the Pentagon in Arlington, VA just outside of Washington D.C. at 9:37 am. The South Tower collapsed at 9:59 am. A fourth airplane United Airlines Flight 93 was also destined for attack presumably on a government building in D.C., however passengers and crew having found out about the other attacks by loved ones calling them tried to take over the hijackers. This resulted in the plane crashing in a field near Shanksville, PA at 10:07. The north tower collapsed at 10:08. A total of 2,977 known people ranging from 2 to 85 were killed from these terrorists attacks. Memorials have been established at their sites to pay tribute to those who lost their lives on September 11. 2001.
BPW members were given ribbons in remembrance. Plans are being made for National Business Women’s Week, October 20-26. An event is planned for Monday, October 21st with Cassie Cleaver presenting a program on 413 Educational Foundation. This will be held at the USD 413 Education Building, 321 East Main. This is open to the public. A BPW Poster board will be on display in the window of Cardinal Drug.
