The Lincoln Central Elementary
The Lincoln Central Elementary chess team from Cherryvale competed at the Royster Middle School chess tournament in Chanute on Saturday. There were 79 players in the K-8 division. Lincoln Central took second as a team at the tournament. Medals were awarded to the top 30 players in the K-8 division. The Cherryvale players placed as follows: Arthur McGrew, 10th with 4.5 points; Graig Edwards, 11th with 4.5; Tripp Vincen 20th with 4; Cheroke Whinery, 28th with 3.5; Gabriel Ohlich, 30th with 3.5; Cheyanne Whinery, 51st with 2.5; Colten Tuggle, 57th with 2; and Adelaide Jones, 68th with 2. The team will travel to Emporia State University next weekend to compete in the Kansas Scholastic Chess Association State Chess Tournament.
