As the warm days of Summer wind down, now is the perfect time to get out and enjoy the local festivities before winter sets in. This Saturday, September 21st, both Chanute and Altoona are hosting exciting events, offering a great opportunity to support your community while having some fun.
The 107th Chanute Mexican Fiesta will be held at Santa Fe Park, promising a full day of entertainment and cultural celebration. Festivities begin early, with a car show hosted by Gene Brooks and his car club starting at 8:30 a.m., followed by a trophy presentation at 2:00 p.m. Food vendors will be ready to serve by noon, so come hungry and enjoy a variety of delicious options.
Throughout the day, DJ Conan will keep the party atmosphere going, and from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Mariachi Jalisco from Wichita will serenade the crowd. For families, VB Inflatables will offer free entertainment for kids from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Cultural performances include a 1:15 p.m. set by SEK Folklorico from Pittsburg and local group Bailadores de Chanute. In the evening, the main program begins at 6:30 p.m., featuring the crowning of the 2024 Fiesta Royalty, a special tribute to Crespin and Maggie De La Torre, and performances by Grupo Folklorico Izcalli from Kansas City. The night wraps up with live music by La Revision Norteña, keeping the dance floor open from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
Just a short drive away, Altoona Fall Fest starts at 9 a.m. on the same day. This small-town festival is a great way to support local vendors and small businesses, many of which rely on community support to thrive. With a car show, games, live music, and plenty of good food—including BBQ from Pork Around & Find Out—the Fall Fest offers a more relaxed but equally enjoyable way to spend your Saturday.
Both festivals promise fun for the whole family, and it’s a great chance to enjoy the season before the cold weather arrives. Don’t miss out on these wonderful local events!
