
Dorothy Kathleen Dickerhoof, 91, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025, in Yukon, Oklahoma.
She was born on Sept. 14, 1933, in Clovis, New Mexico, to Gordon and Ethel Thornton. Dorothy led a life full of adventure and service. She received her high school diploma in Anchorage, Alaska, and graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1955. Her love of aviation led her to work as a hostess for TWA and eventually become an accomplished commercial pilot, also teaching ground school for many years.
Active in the Ninety-Nines International Organization of Women Pilots, Dorothy served in numerous roles, including governor of the South Central region from 1996 to 1998. Her adventurous spirit saw her participate in many air races, including the 1976 Powder Puff Derby. In her later years, she enjoyed genealogy and volunteered at the genealogy library in Manhattan. Dorothy was also a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in her life.
She was married to George Dickerhoof for 68 years, and together they lived in New Mexico, California, Arizona and Kansas before settling in Oklahoma.
She is survived by her loving husband, George; her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Jerry Williams; her son, Randal Dickerhoof; her daughter-in-law, Stacy Dickerhoof; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert Thornton; her nephew, Steven Thornton; her son, Robert Dickerhoof; and her daughter-in-law, Michelle Dickerhoof.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at the Dale Robertson Center, 1200 Lakeshore Drive, Yukon, OK., 73099.
