High Prairie Pioneers 4-H Club

On Sunday, Feb. 16, at the High Prairie Church, acting president Garrett Engelman called to order the February meeting of the High Prairie Pioneers 4-H Club. Flag leaders Sapherya Kuhn and Dawson Stich led the club in the flag salute and the 4-H pledge.

Secretary Delanie Stich conducted a roll call which was, “What is your favorite chore?” Eighteen members and three leaders answered.

Song leader Cheyanne Gloshen led the club in singing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.”

Treasurer Gabe Engelman gave the treasurer’s report. Secretary Delanie Stich read the minutes from the January meeting, which had inadvertently been skipped earlier. Reporter Hunter Reaves gave the reporter’s report. Parliamentarian Oliver Bilby and leader Andrew Engelman explained the need to take roll calls during meetings, for example confirming a quorum being present to conduct business. The 4-H Council representative Garrett Engelman reported that they met on Jan. 26 and discussed county and regional club days and considered changes in the fair schedule.

Leader Andrew Engelman congratulated the club for earning a Top Blue on their model meeting and for all of the outstanding individual performances from the members at County Club Days. The members were reminded to check the latest newsletter and emails from the Extension office for upcoming events. Leader Kimberly Francis praised the club for all of the excellent performances at County Club Days and handed out to the families a fair schedule with tentative changes and asked them to look it over and give feedback to the leaders.

For committee reports leader Kimberly Francis went over the need for a fundraiser and possible ones that the club could have.

There was no old business. In new business, the club voted to have an exchange meeting, and the leaders will contact other clubs to see if they would also like to have one. The members changed the next meeting to March 23 and will hold Grandparents Day then. The club voted to hold a dinner with a free will offering and provide the entertainment as a fundraiser with the date to be set later. The members voted to do their model meeting at Regional Club Days.

Acting vice president Tinselle Francis announced the program. Gage Gloshen gave a project talk about woodworking safety and showed the club a combination U.S./4-H flag he made. Cheyanne Gloshen gave a project talk on bees and talked about colony collapse, flowers to plant to support bees and showed some honey she collected. Dawson Stich explained how he made a semi from LEGOs without plans and how its steering system works. Gabe Engelman, with the help of his brother, Garrett, gave a demonstration on the proper way to catch a football.

Recreation leader Timbrel Francis had the club play “Train Wreck.”

Leader Kimberly Francis picked Gabe Engelman for the spirit stick for putting into use what the club has been practicing with its model meeting by making a motion and then amending it to clarify the motion.

The meeting was adjourned by the members standing and saying the 4-H motto.

After the meeting the club had refreshments provided by the Reaves and Engelman families.
