High Prairie Pioneers 4-H

4-H

On Sunday, Jan. 19, at the High Prairie Church, president Tatum Francis called to order the January meeting of the High Prairie Pioneers 4-H Club. Flag leader Dawson Stich led the club in the flag salute and the 4-H pledge.

Secretary Delanie Stich read the minutes from the December meeting and then conducted the roll call, which was “What do you like winter or spring?” and was answered by 21 members and three leaders.

Song leader Locklynn Vest led the club in singing “If You’re Happy and You Know It.”

Treasurer Gabe Engelman gave the treasurer’s report and reporter Hunter Reaves gave the reporter’s report. The 4-H Council representative Garrett Engelman reported that no meeting had been held since the club’s last meeting.

Leader Andrew Engelman reminded the members to enroll by the end of January and that the club will have model meeting practice following the meeting. Members were reminded of the K-State Junior Producer Days for swine and meat goats and to check their emails for enrollment information. Leader Kimberly Francis informed the club that the first livestock meeting is Jan. 26, County Club Days is Feb. 15 and Regional Club Days and Steer Tag Day are Feb. 22.

For communications secretary Delanie Stich read a thank you card from Dawson Stich for his birthday card from the club and Arline Guenther and Jerry Guenther sent a card thanking the club for caroling to them.

There was no old business. In new business, leader Kimberly Francis explained 4-H Sunday to the new members and then the club voted to have it at High Prairie Church with the date to be decided later.

Vice president Garrett Engelman announced the program. Caleb Kuhn gave a talk about his goat project and explained the parts of a goat and their diets. Sapherya Kuhn gave a talk entitled “How to make a Gnome Craft” and explained how to make one and showed a couple of examples of what she had made. Loren Vest gave a talk about taekwondo and how he takes classes to learn it and showed the belts he has earned. Tinselle Francis talked about her fiber arts projects and showed several items that she had crocheted. Oliver Bilby told the club how there were several ways to participate in County Club Days and one way he had chosen was to play the piano and then played “Ballade” by Burgmuller.

Recreation leader Tinselle Francis had the club play “20 Questions” with 4-H projects as answers.

Leader Kimberly Francis picked Delanie Stich for the spirit stick for her growth as secretary. The members who brought their pen and paper to the meeting picked a number between 1-30 and Naomi Black and Timbrel Francis tied for being the closest and broke the tie with a duel of rock-paper-scissors with Naomi Black the victor and winner of the prize.

The meeting was adjourned by the members standing on one foot, hugging their neighbor to the left while saying the 4-H motto. Hunter Reaves, reporter
