The January meeting of the Jolly Jayhawkers 4-H Club took place Jan. 12 at the Grant Community Building in Stark. This monthly meeting served as the club’s junior officer’s night.
Junior president Brynn Wolken called the meeting to order. Sophia Coover led the club in the flag salute. The monthly roll call of “What is your favorite college basketball team?” was read by junior secretary Brecken Clasen. The roll was answered by 16 members, two cloverbud, three leaders and five parents or guests. Brecken then read the December club meeting minutes that were approved. Evan Dillinger gave the club treasurer’s report.
Club leader Rachele Cosby reminded members to read the monthly 4-H newsletter as well as reminded the club of a few important dates that were coming up including: District and Regional Club Days, upcoming work days at the fairgrounds with the fair board, as well as upcoming project meetings across the district. Rachelle shared that any members who presented a talk or demonstration and received a purple at club days would be able to present a talk at the state fair over “What 4-H Means to Me.” This is new this year, so she wanted to make sure that members were aware of the change. Rachelle also announced the county fair date for July 24-28.
The 4-H Council had a meeting set for Jan. 19. Caysen Cosby and Owen Coover are the club representatives who attended. If either one is unable to attend, Aubrey Taylor would go as the alternative representative for our club. A committee report was given, reminding members of upcoming concession stand fundraisers for the first weekend of March.
New business consisted of conversation directed toward the February meeting. The club decided to do the annual Valentine’s bags for local shut-ins and a signup sheet was sent around to sign up for items to bring. The club agreed to move the February meeting that will also serve as our club achievement banquet to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Neosho Valley Event Center in Erie.
Ellie Dillinger introduced the program for the month. There were no new project talks or recreation for this month. Guy Taylor led the club in song, singing Happy Birthday to the January birthdays. Caysen Cosby led the group in the 4-H Pledge to end the meeting. — Sophia Coover Junior reporter
