GIRARD — Runners from Erie, Parsons and Humboldt were among the competitors at the Girard Invitational race on Thursday.
In the boys’ race, Girard won the meet with 42 points. Caney Valley was second with 48 points, followed by Southeast (68), St. Mary’s Colgan (76), Frontenac (105), Neodesha (149) and Humboldt (172).
Girard’s Houston McGown won the boys race individually, posting a time of 15:24.
Parsons’ Colten Carson placed sixth with a time of 17:10.
Humboldt’s Brigg Shannon placed 41st (21:24), Colden Cook 43rd (21:52), Thatcher Mueller (22:13), Jack Works 55th (22:47) and Emmitt Carson 58th (23:37).
Erie saw Isaac Myers place 16th (18:38) and Killian Hume 26th (19:47).
As for the girls’ race, Colgan won as a team with 40 points. Girard also scored 40 but lost a tiebreaker. Frontenac was third (54) and Humboldt fourth (88).
Girard’s Kennedy Keller won the individual race with a mark of 19:53.
Humboldt’s Anna Heisler placed 15th (23:31), Tori Melendez took 18th (23:55), Teghen Jaro 32nd (26:43), Josey Ellis 35th (27:07), Mallory Sinclair 37th (27:27), Sophia Barlow 38th (27:37) and Jo Ellison 42nd (29:44).
Erie’s Annie Myers took 19th (24:18).
“All of our kids have been working hard, and it shows,” Erie head coach Kyle Carpenter said. “Every one of our kids set new personal records, some even climbing the leaderboard in school records. We also brought home some medals for the first time this season. This coach is pleased with their work ethic at practice, their attitude, and it feels good to see it pay off with some success.”
