INDEPENDENCE — The Montgomery County Beekeepers Association will be hosting its seventh annual introduction to beekeeping course from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Independence Community College West, 2615 W. Main, in Independence. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. There will be an hour break for lunch. The cost for non-members is $25 per household for those preregistered or $30 at the door. For members who have paid their 2025 dues of $15, there is no cost, but members may purchase the book for $10 if desired. The price includes the course, a book entitled “First Lessons in Beekeeping” and a one-year club membership to the Montgomery County Beekeepers Association.

This is a one-day, beginner’s course that will prepare the new beekeeper for his or her first year of beekeeping. The course will cover where to purchase bees, equipment, safety precautions, hive inspections, beekeeper’s calendar and more. To pre-register, send checks to MCBA President Emmalee Hoggatt, 3550 W. 4200 St., Independence. While pre-registration is not required, it is appreciated as this class has increased in popularity over the years.
