FREDONIA — The Fredonia Arts Council announced Monday its first 2025 exhibit, the “Southeast Cross Roads Exhibit,” which is now open for viewing at the Stone House Gallery in Fredonia.
This exhibit features the work of Chanute artist Bob Cross, showcasing a diverse range of artwork in various media, including welded steel, graphite, pastels, ink, collage and mixed media.
The Stone House Gallery will host a “Meet the Artist” reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. The public is invited to view Cross’s collection and meet the artist.
Cross has dedicated most of his life to teaching and promoting art education in Kansas. He established an art program at Caney Junior and Senior High Schools in Caney and concluded his public school teaching career at Royster Middle School in Chanute. During his tenure, he also initiated the elementary art program in the Chanute USD 413 and led art programs for youth and adults at the Chanute Recreation Commission. Additionally, he conducted workshops for the Southeast Kansas Educational Service Center at Greenbush and the Kansas State Department of Education, served as an art instructor at Pittsburg State University and was an adjunct faculty member at Neosho County Community College.
Over the years, Cross received numerous honors, including the Kansas Art Education Association (KAEA) awards for Outstanding Secondary Art Educator, Outstanding Middle-Level Art Educator and Outstanding Retired Art Educator. Recently, he was inducted into the KAEA Distinguished Fellows Class of 2024.
The Stone House Gallery is open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and has free admission. The artist’s artwork is available for purchase.
