Meeting for Business and Professional Women

Chanute Business and Professional Women (BPW) met Wednesday August 28, 2024 at the Research Building. Jen Brown was hostess. Our speaker was our own member Tayah Williams who gave the program on “Hidden Disabilities”. A lot of disabilities or challenges are obvious with physical changes that we can see.

However there are hidden disabilities that can’t be seen such as mental conditions like anxiety. These can be real or perceived threats. Sometimes anxiety can be a good thing to motivate us however it can lead to depression and a loss of interest in tasks. A person may reflect on their past and wonder what they could have done differently. You can start now but you can’t change the past. Many times people with anxiety just want to fit in, to have friends, and to have social experiences. Some mood disorders may be caused by hormonal changes. This sometimes feels like they are in a “fog moment”. The good thing is that people with anxiety and mood disorders can make a change and learn how to cope with it. The best thing to do is seek help with a professional therapist who can help you talk through and think through your issues. There is no shame in seeking help.

Our next meeting will be on October 9th at 6:00 pm. For more information regarding BPW contact President Sharon Carpenter at 620-431-8532.
