Republican committee to nominate replacement for clerk

On Monday, the Neosho County Republican Central Committee received word that County Clerk-elect Dey-Leigh Umbarger had submitted a letter to the Neosho County Clerk’s Office indicating she would not assume the office of clerk as scheduled.

The Central Committee has the duty of nominating a replacement for the vacancy. The nomination goes to the Kansas governor.

The committee will conduct a nominating convention in accordance with the state law, the Kansas Republican constitution and bylaws for the purpose of electing a replacement to fill this vacancy. The term of the appointment is through January 2027. Voters will have the opportunity to vote on the position in the 2026 primary and general elections.

The convention will occur no later than Feb. 3. The date will be announced when it is scheduled.
