June Marie (Roberts) Metzen

June Marie (Roberts) Metzen, 92, passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, at the Comfort Care Homes West in Wichita.

June was born to Vyrl and Ona (Ard) Roberts on June 15, 1932, in the farmhouse east of Chanute. June was the oldest of three siblings. June attended Chanute High School, graduating in 1950. June married Ralph Metzen Jr. and they were blessed with four children, Brian, Bruce, Cathy and Carolyn.

Besides raising the children, June worked at the coverall factory, NuWa Industries, in Chanute over several years until she retired. During retirement, June was an avid walker and loved to walk with Carman and Louie, her dogs. June loved to read and would read many books in a month and her Bible until macular degeneration did not allow her to read any longer. June was very feisty in her old age and would make you laugh when the octave level of her voice would increase with the excitement. She told you how things would be or were going to be.

June is survived by her sons, Brian Metzen and companion, Patty, and Bruce Metzen, all of Chanute; daughters, Cathy (Butch) Wilmot of Chanute and Carolyn (Terry) Messing of Wichita; grandchildren, Rhonda (Metzen) Austin and husband Jim, Miranda (Metzen) Kirkpatrick and husband Lucas, Amy (Metzen) Honer and husband Sean, Kevin Metzen and wife Courtney, Jonathan Wilmot and Christopher Messing and wife Madison; great-grandchildren, Christian Metzen, Anabelle and Sophia Chenoweth, Gabriel and Kingston Kirkpatrick, Cade, Casten and Caitlen Honer, Landon and Emmett Metzen; and great-great-grandchildren, Braxton Messing, Adelina Espinosa, Waylon Hart and Oliver Metzen.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Vyrl and Ona (Ard) Roberts; sisters, Nelda Sue (Roberts) McGee, Claris Eileen (Roberts) Angleton; a brother, Norman Roberts; and a grandson, Ryan Messing.

June will be missed by many family members. The nurses at the care home just adored June. She was a spunky lady who entertained them many times with her humor and the words that came out of her mouth.

The service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, at Otterbein United Methodist Church with burial immediately following at Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home.
