LaVerne Storey Miller, 95, Chanute, died at her home on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

LaVerne was born in Summit Community in the Madison area of Lyon County on July 31, 1915, the daughter of William and Millie French Storey.

She attended Madison area schools, before her marriage to Ray Boan, whom she later divorced before his death.

On Sept. 11, 1971 she married Charles W. Miller of Chanute. He preceded her in death in 2002.

LaVerne was a lifetime member of VFW and American Legion and loved attending the dances when she was younger.

LaVerne worked at Jensen Egg Plant, Burlington Overall Factory and retired from Kustom Electronics.

In her free time she was very active and enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and hand making quilts for her grandchildren, up until her illness two years ago.

She is survived by her children, Lewis “Joe” Boan, Buffalo, Leona Hansen and Naomi Bluma, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., Donna Tripp, Chanute, Albert “Jack” Boan, Altoona; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Margie Boan, Emporia, Ellen Kuertzel, Emporia, Edith Musch, Wichita, Beulah Stine, Emporia, Rosalie Brenton, Eureka; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles W. Miller; four brothers, James, Bill, Owen and John; and three sisters, Louise Christy, Ester Storey and Ruth Storey.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17 at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel in Chanute. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials in her name may be made to Tri-Valley Developmental Center and may be left with the funeral home.
