Richard Irwin Jacques, 80, Pittsburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010 at Via Christi Village, Pittsburg.

He was born June 13, 1930 at Chanute, to Joseph Irwin and Alice Pyle Jacques.

Jacques graduated from Chanute High School in 1948. After completing five semesters of college work he enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was made a lithographer. He graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor’s degree in technology and then a Master’s of science degree in industrial education in 1958.

He was united in marriage to Carole Ann Cline on Aug. 5, 1956 at the Presbyterian Church in Pittsburg. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2008.

Jacques was a professor at Pittsburg State University in the Department of Graphics and Imaging Technologies for 39 years retiring in 1995.

Membership was held in the Presbyterian Church, Pittsburg, and the Tuesday and Thursday Coffee Group.

He is survived by one son, Mark Jacques and his partner, Don Poulson, Springfield, Mo.; and three daughters, Marcia Base and husband, Greg, Andover, Michelle Moxley and husband, Mark, Overland Park, and Maureen Pio and husband, Chad, Gladstone, Mo.,; one brother George Edward Jacques, Glendale, Calif.; one sister, Virginia L. Friederich, Chanute; seven grandchildren, Corey, Derek and Sarah Base, Hannah and Jack Pio, and Will and Meghan Moxley.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and grandson Aaron Base.

Services for are set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21 at the Presbyterian Church with Pastor K.O. Noonoo officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday. The Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post # 64 of Pittsburg will conduct the flag folding ceremony. The family suggests memorials to Richard and Carole Jacques Scholarship Fund.
