Larry Charles Wikel, 62, Chanute, died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at the Colmery O’Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka.

Larry was born in Great Bend on Dec. 20, 1947, the son of Lawrence and Tressie Cravens Wikel Gossett.

Larry was a veteran of the United States Army, having served three tours in Vietnam and later serving in Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star.

After the service he worked as an auto body mechanic and welder.

He was united in marriage to Sandra Wilson. They later divorced.

Larry is survived by his mother, Tressie Gossett, Chanute; two sons, Larry James Wikel, Nebraska, and Stacy Ryan Wikel, of the United States Air Force; one grandchild; two brothers, Cecil Wikel, Ward, Ark., and Monte Wikel, Chanute; and a sister, Tina Jack, Chanute.

He was preceded in death by his father; his ex-wife Sandra; a grandson, Russell Wikel; and two brothers, Gary Wikel and Steven Wikel.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 15 at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials in his name may be made to Cherry Street Youth Center and may be left with the funeral home.
