Dorothy Evelyn Hunt, 82, Chanute, died Monday, July 12, 2010 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.

Dorothy was born on Oct. 16, 1927 in Wichita, the daughter of Arthur H. and Evelyn Lowen Hawton. She graduated from Wichita North High School in the Class of 1946.

She was united in marriage to Jack W. Hunt on August 31, 1947 in Wichita. They moved to Chanute in 1949. He preceded her in death in 1990.

Dorothy was church secretary for the First Baptist Church in Chanute for 40 years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Friendship Class, served for many years as The White Cross Chairman of the American Baptist Women, and volunteered at the Hospital Red Cross for more than 20 years and Cherry Street Youth Center for 10 years.

Dorothy is survived by a sister, Violet Alway, Battlefield, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack, a son, Paul, and a sister, Ruth.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. on Friday, July 16 at the First Baptist Church in Chanute. Burial will be at 3 p.m. on Friday at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita.

Memorials in her name may be made to the First Baptist Church or Cherry Street Youth Center and may be left with the funeral home.
