David H. Conine, 71, Chanute, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at his home.
David was born Dec. 30, 1938 in Fort Scott, the son of N.H. “Herb” and M. Ollene Stout Conine. He grew up in Iola and graduated from Iola High School in 1956.
After serving in the United States Marine Corp, David attended Allen County Community College and Kansas State University.
On Nov. 16, 1958, David married his high school sweetheart Patricia Kay Fox. They lived in several communities before moving to Chanute in 1972. David ran his own successful business, Midco Construction for years. He designed and built commercial and residential buildings throughout the area.
His memberships include the First United Methodist Church, Aircraft Owners Pilot Association and he was president of S.E.K. Mental Health. David was active in the progress of the community serving on numerous boards and in several organizations.
He enjoyed trading stocks, traveling, working in the yard, his family and his friends.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 51 years, Patty Conine, of the home; two daughters, Juli Henderson and husband, Richard, of Rockwall, Texas, and Jill Haight and husband, Dan, Chanute; a son, James David Conine and wife, Dawn, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Phillip Conine and wife, Cecilia, Memphis, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Kaylee and Kelsi Henderson, Alleigh and Alec Haight; a stepgranddaughter, Leah Witt
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 10 at the First United Methodist Church in Chanute, the Reverend Gerry Sharp officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Iola.
Memorials are suggested to S.E.K. Mental Health or the First United Methodist Church and may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, in charge of arrangements.
