Charles Richard Chard, 84, Humboldt, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the Allen County Hospital in Iola. Charles was born on Dec. 28, 1925 at Humboldt, the son of John Hubbert and Nina Chard.

Charles was a WWII veteran where he served as a Merchant Marine. On Sept. 21, 1945 he married Maudena Faye Fletcher. She preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 2009. Charles was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Iola.

He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Gatling, Arlington, Texas; a brother, Arthur Chard, Minnesota; two sisters, Nancy Chard, Alaska, Bobbie Chard, Great Bend; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. today, July 2 at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Humboldt. The family suggests memorials to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and may be left with Countryside Funeral Home. 420 S. 20th St., P.O. Box 247 Fredonia, KS 66736.
