Edna Aretta Winder, 94, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Chanute Healthcare Center.
Edna was born in rural Erie on Jan. 14, 1916, the daughter of Richard C. and Elsie Babcock Nelson.
She was united in marriage to Ray P. Winder on Nov. 11, 1930. He preceded her in death in 1976.
Edna loved to play golf, bowl and crochet. She was a lifetime member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
She is survived by four children, Delbert Winder and his wife, Kathy, of Tulsa, Okla., June Cathers and her husband, Terry, Chanute, Claudette Culp and her husband, Larry, and Bill Winder and his wife, Mary, Chanute; 14 grandchildren, Tracey Marsh, Darin Winder, Jenel Eisenbart, Brian Cathers, Randy Slocum, Pat Slocum, Dana Patterson, Chris Slocum, Jennifer Brown, Brad Winder, Lindsay Winder, Molly Winder, Russell Jessee and Michelle Jessee; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, John Nelson and his wife, Phyllis, of Hudsonville, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray, and a daughter Mardell who died in October 1964.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 25 at the Otterbein United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute.
Memorials in her name may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church and may be left with the funeral home.
