Cora May Umbarger, 90, Chanute died Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Chanute Health Care Center.
Cora May was born in St. Paul on Feb. 7, 1920, the daughter of Silas Elmer and Cora May Thompson Newland.
She graduated from St. Paul High School in 1938.
She was a homemaker. Cora May was united in marriage to Myrle Umbarger in Chanute on Nov. 2, 1958. He preceded her in death in 1987.
She was a member of the Christian Church and enjoyed church activities. She also loved quilting.
Cora May is survived by four daughters, Kathy Sehorn and her husband, Tony, Chanute, Betty Engle, Topeka, Kay Engle, Strafford, Mo., and May Mead and her husband, Jim Houghton, Nortonville; two stepsons, John Dale Umbarger and his wife, Judy, Ft. Worth, Texas, Roger Umbarger and his wife, Phyllis, of Independence, Mo.; and a stepdaughter, Sharon Greve, Chanute; 13 grandchildren; three sisters, Flossie Burton, Independence, Nell Cook, Chanute, Cleta Kaesemeyer, Spokane, Wash.; and one brother, Joe Newland, of Stanfield, Ore.; several great- and great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, N. Ferd Engle and Raymond Engle, seven grandchildren, four brothers, two sisters and one stepson-in-law, Larry Greve.
The family will receive friends this evening 6 to 8 p.m. Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.
