Evalyn Ruth Passig, 81, Chanute, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute of a sudden illness.
Evalyn was born Sept. 7, 1928,on a farm west of Elsmore, the daughter of Oscar Frank and Signild Marie Nielson Carlson. She graduated from Elsmore High School in 1947 and taught at Prairie Hall Rural Grade School.
On July 31, 1949, Evalyn married Dale Emil Passig at Savonburg. They made their home in Humboldt before moving to Iola in 1953. She worked for H.L. Miller & Son Dress Factory in Iola for 39 years before retiring. Her husband died Sept. 5, 2006.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Chanute.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon K. Ramsey, Chanute; a son, Dale E. Passig, Jr., and his wife, Shelia, Wolfforth, Texas; a brother, Earl Carlson, Elsmore; a sister, Elaine Dunlap, Bolivar, Mo.; 4 grandchildren, April K. Cowen and husband, Jeremy, Chanute, Crystal R. Van Leeuwen and husband, Kale, Shawnee, Tiffany D. VanWinkle and husband, Zeb, Chanute, and Heather Williams and husband, Melvin, Texas; 9 great-grandchildren, Carley and Joselyn Cowen, Madelyn, Avie and Leland VanWinkle, all of Chanute, and Kyler, Trevor, Cagen and Caden Williams, all of Texas.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Edward Carlson, and by three sisters, Elsie Swenson, Esther Bacon and Ellen Siders.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola
Service is 10 a.m., Saturday, May 15 at the Chanute Church of the Nazarene, 14th and Plummer. Pastor Mark McCuistion will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Humboldt.
