Verle F. Bachelder, 92, Yates Center, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008 at Coffey County Hospital, Burlington.

He was born Dec. 22, 1915 in Benton, the son of Roscoe and Lydia Meyersick Bachelder.

He grew up on a farm near Benton and graduated from Benton High School.

He farmed and worked at the aircraft factory in Wichita. He farmed and drove a school bus for 11 years in Woodson County. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He married Helen Otto July 20, 1958 in Woodson County. She survives, of the home.

Also surviving are three sons, Gary Bachelder, New Albany, Ind., Don Bachelder, Mesa, Ariz., Dennis Klick, Toronto; two daughters, Jan Riley, Chickasha, Okla., Linda Edwards, Valley Center; a half-brother, Max Whitson, Benton; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8 at the First United Methodist Church, with burial in Yates Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church basement following the graveside service. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
