Florence Alliene Jackman, 87, Moran, died Wednesday, October 29, 2008, after an extended illness.
She was born Feb. 11, 1921, on the family farm north of Iola to William B. and Hattie King Gay. She attended Gas and Iola schools.
On July 17, 1938, she married Herman D. Jackman at the Trinity Church in Iola. He survives.
The Jackmans lived the majority of their married life in Moran, except when the family business, Jackman Excavation, took them to project sites out of state. After they retired from the construction business, the couple owned and operated the Moran Laundry. In 1975 Mrs. Jackman became a Certified Medication Aide and worked many years at Moran Manor prior to retirement.
She was a member of the Moran Christian Church where she taught Sunday school many years. She enjoyed working with crafts and was an accomplished cook. She enjoyed camping with her family as long as her health allowed.
Other survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law, Donna and Otis Smith, Moran, Janet and Bob Houk, Moran, Barbara Stotler, Iola, and Betty and Howard Randall, Ottawa; four sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Elaine Jackman, LaHarpe, Jerry and Susie Jackman, Moran, Henry and Connie Jackman, Moran, and Mike and Jennifer Jackman, Elsmore; 24 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Merrill Gay; a sister, Irene Kilby; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Rene Hale, Terri Lynn Houk Wagner, Gregory Allen Jackman and Ryan Michael Jackman.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Moran Christian Church. Burial will follow in the Moran Cemetery under the direction of Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel, Iola.
Friends and family may pay their respects Friday at the funeral home. No formal visitation is planned. Contributions to Moran Christian Church for Community VBS may be left at the funeral home.
