Genevia F. Gay, 83, Chanute, died Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at her home.

She was born in Rayborn, Mo., on July 21, 1925, to Hiram Franklin and Dalia Lathrom Carder.

She married Alvin Gay on Sept. 4, 1961. He survives.

She was a homemaker.

Other survivors include two daughters, Donna Shepard and Sue Shaw; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Jess, Elmer, Ray, Howard and Everett; and a sister, Juanita Blanche.

Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery on East 14th Street.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute.

Contributions may be made to the Ambassador Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
