Geneva L. Herrin, 85, Moran, died Monday, October 6, 2008, at Allen County Hospital, Iola.

She was born March 27, 1923, in Sharon to Clarence and Louise Lehnus Shepherd. She grew up in various parts of Kansas before graduating from Stark High School in 1943.

On May 15, 1943, she married Roy Herrin in Erie. He died Nov. 1, 2004.

The Herrins made their home on a farm in rural Walnut until 1996 when they moved to Moran.

She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, making crafts, raising flowers and gathering and picking nuts.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and George Meiwes, Moran; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James and Devona Herrin, LaCygne, and Gary Herrin, Bentonville, Ark.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty and Willie Smith, Elsmore, and Lorene Reynolds, Redding, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Basil, LeRoy, Howard and Jimmy Shepherd.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel, Iola. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Fort Scott National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Parkinson’s Foundation in care of the funeral home.
