Woodrow L. Youngberg, 95, Chanute, died Friday, September 26, 2008, at Heritage Health Care Center, Chanute.
He was born Sept. 5, 1913, in Chanute to Elmer and Sigrid Elvira Warner Youngberg. He graduated from Chanute High School.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He married Margaret Tolbert on Oct. 13, 1940. She survives.
He was a machinist at Ash Grove Cement Plant until his retirement.
As a young man, Woodrow enjoyed hunting and fishing. In later years he enjoyed gardening and going to auctions.
Other survivors include a daughter, Linda Youngberg, Oakland, Calif; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard “Rick” and Shirley Youngberg, Shawnee, and James “Jim” and Kathy Youngberg, Buffalo; two grandchildren, Justin Youngberg and wife, Stacey, and Joshua Youngberg; and two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Reece Youngberg.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Leonard, Ruel, Dale and Edgar; and two sisters, Esther and Cecile.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Chanute. Burial will follow in Swede Center Cemetery, rural Chanute.
He will lie in state from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church.
Contributions to First Christian Church Food Pantry may be left with the funeral home.
