Phyllis Eileen Reed, 67, of Humboldt, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.

Phyllis was born Nov. 27, 1945, in Chanute, the daughter of Leonard and Delores Peck Krone. She grew up in Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1963.

On Oct. 18, 1968, Phyllis married Bobby L. Reed in Chanute and they have made their home in Humboldt most of their married lives. She operated a daycare from her home for a number of years. She began working as a crossing guard for Humboldt Elementary School and then became a janitor. She loved being around the children and referred to them as “her babies.”

Phyllis was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Reed, of the home; two children, Stephen Reed of Chanute, and Loretta Kapler and husband, Ethan, of Topeka; two grandchildren, Gannen Reed and Jensena Mangus; her mother, Delores Krone of Humboldt,; four siblings, Darrell Krone and wife, Susan, of Humboldt, LaDonna Krone of Humboldt, Debra Reser and husband, Royce, of Emporia, and Bob Krone and wife, Janis, of Humboldt.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 19 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Humboldt.

Memorials are suggested to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Humboldt Elementary Library and may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola.
